Abstract Painting (non-representational) Oliver Art Center July 16th 12:30-4:00pm Members $40 (non-members $50)
Let’s jump into the realm of abstract painting. This class will be a lot of fun with “no risk and lots of reward” painting methods. We’ll use patterning and repetition of a motif to create expressive works of art. I’ll guide you through the process and we’ll slap, daub and dab away the afternoon. Composition, value, color and shape will be discussed as we bring our paintings toward conclusion.
Materials: 1. Paint… red, blue, yellow, black and white. 2. Your favorite brushes (Bigger is better here...one inch flat is a good size) 3. 2 supports to paint on…gesso primed paper (watercolor paper that you’ve pre-painted with gesso or matte medium), canvas, canvas panel or acrylic paper. The bigger the better…but realize that we are restricted a bit by the studio size. 4. Two water containers (clean and eventually dirty water) 5. Paper toweling (viva brand if you have it) and/or old terry towels that will be paint rags forever more. (in other words… not your good towels) 6. Foam or paper plates for palettes (or the palette that you normally use) 7. Sheet of freezer paper for mixing on (or the palette that you normally use) 8. Some sort of sketch book. Any sort. Spiral, lined, tablet…whatever you have 9. Pen or pencil
