| This painting is from a photo I uncovered while I was at my mom’s over Christmas. My dad must have taken it and it was buried on the computer. It is of “Nant”, my mom’s great aunt.(?) Nant died...hmm probably 7 or 8 years ago. What an interesting lady! She lived in the first frame house ever built in the county (all previous had been log). When we would visit, she would have the most exciting stories for us about our relatives...One story in particular was of a woman who had to take her infant up into a huge tree to escape a group of Indians. She watched them storm the house and set fire to it just below her! Who know if the stories are true...but such excitement for me at 10 or 11! She would then sit in the parlor and play piano for us.....What a great sense of humor she had too! This painting was a pleasure to do....I glazed the paper with quic.gold. before I started, because I wanted the warm hazy glow her home always had....The M. Graham paints were magic for this one....scrub back to soften...I wanted a dreamy feeling...Thanks for peeking in... *This painting was accepted into the Michigan Annual All Media Show in Mt. Clemens, MI Feb.2004 |
