Lauren Everett Finn
week 33
This week I met with two "cyber" friends at Cranbrook
Gardens near Detroit for some Plein Aire painting..One was
visiting here from his home in England..and one came over
from Chatham, Ontario....It was just wonderful to meet "Wet
Canvassers" in real life! (www.wetcanvas.com  is a terrific
working artists site) After we found each other...and looked
around a bit....(there are over 40 acres of gardens) I
decided on this spot to paint...unfortunately the weather
didn’t cooperate... we had been painting for just a short
while and the rain came...I had only gotten a few of the
preliminary washes done and I had to finish at home...
I think it turned into a study of vibrant spring greens...
I also think Cranbrook is a terrific and challenging place to
paint en plein aire (that just means painting on location)....
the grounds abound with DETAIL...Lots of decisions to make
as far as how to simplify. If you are interested in painting
there....make sure to call ahead...It really is a treasure and
worth a visit....(even if you don't paint!)
